TikTok, a popular social media application developed by the Chinese company ByteDance, has faced multiple bans in various countries due to concerns about the company’s close relationship with the Chinese government and the potential risks to user data privacy worldwide. Governments in Belgium, Canada, Scotland, the European Parliament, and New Zealand, as well as the United States, have banned or threatened to ban the app, citing national security reasons. In the UK, TikTok has been banned on government phones due to the possibility of sensitive information being compromised. India and Pakistan have also banned TikTok, with India claiming that the app posed a security threat and Pakistan citing immoral and indecent content. China has called for a fair playing field for companies from all countries in response to these bans.
